What we do, and why

California already requires hospitals to reduce or forgive bills for households under 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. Almost nobody who qualifies is ever told. The help is written into law; what stands between a family and it is a different form at every hospital, a stack of paperwork, and a billing office with no reason to bring it up.

That gap is why I do this. As Executive Director I run the organization day to day and keep its books, so every application we send and every dollar we spend has someone accountable for it. Families never pay us a cent, and I intend to keep it that way.
